The Superpower List - A growing list of superpowers, created by you. Dream the impossible.
Superpower: Superhuman Speed
The ability to move at above-human speeds
Superhuman speedsters can run at speeds of up to Mach 1 for extended periods. Their thinking processes, hand movements, eye motion, and reaction times are similarily faster. These energies are fueled by either massive amounts of food or an absorption state during sleep.
The good:
Never be late
Have fun in dodgeball
Thievery
The bad:
Need to eat all the time
Normal life seems slow
May be kidnapped by FBI and studied

Look at Formula 1 racing drivers, they drive up to speeds of around 180mph, even faster, and they're still able to see where they're going. Also, look at fighter pilots, or the pilots of an SR-71 Blackbird, or a Concorde. Those aircraft have travelled at the speed of sound, and the pilots are still able to see. Therefore, if a speedster was running at the same speeds, it would not feel like he/she is walking at all, it would feel like they're running at the speed that they're going.

Actually, what I think, Super Speed would only feel like walking if you were running up to speeds of around Mach 5 and faster. If a user was running at 78mph or 180mph, or even 750mph, the speed of sound, his/her mind would still be going at normal speeds because it would have no need to speed up, because the user would still be able to see what's in front of them.

You usually run(not walk) with superspeed. It could feel like walking, it could differ per user. It's usually running though. While in superspeed, the normal lifes of others may seem slow, but I guess this could also be different for some. And you only have a superfast brain when in superspeed, not in normal life. I guess you (mentally) adapt to the differences between super speed and normal life; the longer you use superspeed, the better you deal with it.

Would that be seen as a flaw with Super Speed? Or an advantage of it? Also, when you're getting on with normal life, does that mean that the rest of the world will seem like super slow to your fast brain? Because, that would be really frustrating.

It may feel like walking, but you still know it's superspeed, even if your thought process is sped up (which would be always, otherwise you can't use the power). Look at Smallville, when Clark runs to someone's rescue or replaces wooden beams. He dodges cars and he arrives in an instant. He must be aware that he's in superspeed since everything else seems slower and everything he does is way faster then when done without superspeed.

Someone pointed out to me that when running at supersonic speeds, it would feel like you're walking, because your thoughts are also sped up. That wouldn't be fun in my case. I've sometimes imagined Super Speed as being enjoyable, but, if it feels like your walking, then that would be naf. What do you think?

Ah right, okay, I see your point.
667  (4/24/2010 at 10:06 a.m.)
By seeming slow, I don't mean like super-slow-mo. Imagine if everyone was that guy who takes too long at the ATM or won't go then the light turns green or takes forever to check out in the supermarket--THAT'S what I mean by slow. It would be frustrating to be extremely fast at everything and having to accomodate the slower people.
TyrrellTheSquirrel  (4/24/2010 at 7:23 a.m.)
With Superhuman speed, I don't think it's necessarily the case with your normal life seeming slow. I mean, look at the Flash, and Quicksilver, they seem to be getting on with their lives just fine, it doesn't seem slow to them, doesn't it! What I think would happen is when you start running at supersonic speeds, your mind would adjust itself to whichever speed you are traveling at, and when you slow down and stop, your mind would adjust itself to a normal speed.

Oh yes.
WHD  (4/03/2010 at 2:17 p.m.)
I guess you could also walk over water and speed read, right?

Search your heart... now that is a cool line.
Hi I'm new (anonymous) (1/01/2010 at 11:54 a.m.)
The goofy ones are mine
667  (1/01/2010 at 10:50 a.m.)
...none yet. Nothing really goofy.
Scotch  (12/31/2009 at 10:37 p.m.)
True. You did get here early so you got the tedious task of adding most of the obvious ones, but they would have been pretty lifeless without your embellishment. Incidentally, 667, how many completely preposterous powers have you posted?
667  (12/31/2009 at 9:00 p.m.)
Search your heart. You know it to be so.
Master_Logan  (12/31/2009 at 7:43 p.m.)
Ummm
667  (12/31/2009 at 6:25 p.m.)
Aw, one of you-all would've stepped forward and filled the void. Now the site might not have been as roguishly awesome if I were gone...
Master_Logan  (12/31/2009 at 2:21 p.m.)
It be a lot smaller.
667  (12/31/2009 at 10:33 a.m.)
Dunno. Probably just fine.
Josh  (12/30/2009 at 10:31 p.m.)
It's approaching 160, I believe. Somebody needs to make an 'any power 667 hasn't come up with/posted' power or something. 667, what would the list do without you?
starriderV  (12/30/2009 at 8:07 p.m.)
667, how many powers have you made
